Home?Trade Compliance? Chiles Agriculture Ministry proposes revisions to sanitary standards for edible animal fat imports
To ensure the sanitary safety of edible animal fats, Chiles Ministry of Agriculture issued a revision proposal on August 28, 2023, clarifying import sanitary requirements. Below is an overview of key points:
Heat treatment requirements for fats from FMD-free countries
For fats derived from cattle, goats, or sheep not originating from WOAH-recognized FMD-free countries, the product must undergo heat treatment at a minimum core temperature of 70°C for 30 minutes.
Heat treatment requirements for pork fats
For pork fats not originating from WOAH-recognized classical swine fever and African swine fever-free countries, the fats must similarly undergo heat treatment at a minimum core temperature of 70°C for 30 minutes.
Proof requirements for other treatment methods
If the treatment method for edible animal fats does not meet the above requirements, the exporting country must provide a detailed description of the actual treatment method on its official sanitary certificate and declare that the method can effectively eliminate potential animal viruses.
Notably, this revision proposal is currently in the public consultation phase, and stakeholders may submit feedback by October 30, 2023. The new sanitary requirements aim to further ensure food safety and guarantee that consumed animal fat products pose no risks.
